You ain't been around till you have been aground. Real boaters have either been aground or they will.

Going aground is when you really appreciate that single engine & the full keel.

Who else has experienced that sickening lurch forward as the boat has come to an unexpected halt?

That would be me...

And yes, you're very right about the keel (skeg in my case) AND the bow thruster. Boat came to a stop, used the thruster to pivot 180 degrees, and went back out the way I came in. Fortunately I was going very slowly (unfamiliar harbor) so no damage due to the grounding. My wife barely knew there was a problem although she did wonder what the heck I was doing with the thruster.

(There's also the time, many, many years ago, when I ran a 13' Boston Whaler completely out of the water while racing in a marsh - my steering failed - that's a story to tell over a drink!) :lol:
