Yanmar Engine, 2002 315hp what is normal Oil Pressure3200rpm

Post by slimjim »

I'm getting 37 to 40 Oil Press reading at 3200 RPM, doing about 17 knots with 6 guys and full of fuel (132 gallons) gear and ice. Seems to me like the oil press is a little low?? What should be the avg reading? Its a 2002 Yanmar 315hp with 990 hours, oil and filters were changed 20 hours ago? Thanks for any reply...

Have you noticed any oil leaks? Any chance the gasket from the last oil filter decided it wanted to stay attached to the engine and you are essentially 'double-gasketed'? That happened to me once  (and will NEVER happen again).

No oil leaks at all, eerything looks great and the engine runs great, coolant is good and runs between 170 and under 180.......can you or anyone tell me what your oil pressure is when running at 3200 rpm with a load on your yanmar 315? Thanks, Jim

In the automotive field, which I'm familiar with, the standard was 15 lbs at idle, 45 lbs at higher RPM. Load is not a factor. Most engines run at that pressure. Yanmar gauges are in metric so do the conversion. Rule of thumb...if the gauge is in the middle and there are no noises, don't worry about it.

My two Yanmars (31 TE with twins) run about 75 at that RPM.

Nice dash Rob, Looks like my oil press is 10 to 15 lower then what you are showing at 3200 rpm. I will bring her up to 3800rpm today and see what my reading is. My temp is exact as yours......
