Holt crap June and I finally might get wet this week

Post by jleonard »

It had been a long time comming, and finally I will get launched tomorrow or tuesday.
This is by far the latest we have ever been launched, but we have been holding off a little.
This season we won't be renting a slip. My last workday is friday June 8th, then we'll work and live on the boat for a week or so, then take off for a season long cruise "up nort". Hudson R, Erie canal, Thousand Islands, Trent-Severn canal, Georgian Bay, then back.
We have been working hard on the boat. Lots of thins have to change if you are not going to be plugged into a slip half the summer. We have been working hard installing extra batterys, a battery monitor system, working out storage, etc. Oh yes and all those spare parts...I swear I can build another boat with my parts! LOL.
Anywho, we launch next week, and then we will be mostly off the grid for the summer.

If anyone wants to check in and see what we have been up to. Hopefully we can blog all good stuff. Yea right. But the crap makes us stronger and better boaters. (I read that somewhere not sure if I really believe that).
My cell is 860-830-2530
So just wanted to let y'all know what the latest poop is with us. We will miss the group at Essex, and you'll know and understand why.
Cheers and here's to a awesome 2012 boating season.

Hopefully you're bringing along a laptop and will be keeping us up to date!

I'm up on the Hudson now (Newburgh), typing away on the marina wi-fi. Did a run up to Saugerties today, just for the heck of it. The river is an interesting body of water and it gets prettier as you go north. You'll have a great time!

The estimated distance is 3 months. I have no clue what the mileage will be. I'll zero out my gps when we start and read the total when we haul out for winter.

We have been on the Hudson several times, and it is beautiful. Wife and daughter and grand daughter stayed at Saugerties Lighthouse overnight this year in March. They had a great time. Check it out sometime.

Hey Jay!! Sounds like a good time coming up. I would have to second the "Hudson get's prettier as you go north". We've from NYC to Lake Champlain, up to the Canadian border... a beautiful ride.....something you may want to consider as opposed to the Erie. Either way, I'm sure it'll be a trip of a lifetime!!! Do keep us posted.
It's all about relaxation :)

This is where I was yesterday afternoon!

I was headed up the river, with no particular destination in mind, when I saw the lighthouse and turned in to the harbor. Traffic was very light and after a slow spin around the inner harbor I drifted in the channel and read my guidebook. It said the dock was available for the public and that touring the "grounds" was allowed. Had it been a nicer day I might not have pulled in since I would be taking up the majority of the dock but the forecast had clearly kept a lot of people off of the water. So in I went.

ConGrats Jay & Deb on your adventure up to Ontario . By the sounds of it you're not going to be coming our way on L Erie unless you come back dwn through the Detroit -St Clair to Buffalo to head back . Some nice country to see , I have done the Erie from Oswego to Albany and to NYC many times but that was 85-89 [tug and barge ] The Thousand Islands you will love , As to the Trent , never been there yet . As to Georgian Bay , its a nice trip ,alot of travellers do the North Channel across the top of Manitoulin Island.. Beware of ROCKS . They are advising of low water this year do to the mild winter and low snow fall . AS of last week L Huron and Geogian bay were about 5 in above Chart Datum and expected to fall close to datum
All the best and safe trip . Keep her between the Red & the Greens and wet on the Bottom

Albin guys (and girls), I'm putting together a trip up the Hudson in August for myself, another Albin and one or two other boats. Leaving NJ and thinking of a couple to three over nights. Any suggestions on nice ports to stop at over night within walking distance of restuarants, etc. would be appreciated. We're mostly over 60 so walking distance isn't as far as it used to be. I've stayed at Stony Point and Newburg previously. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Jay and Debby,

We are so jealous! You are a couple of years ahead of us in doing this - can't wait to hear how it all goes. You will be our scouts - wishing you both only the best and many great adventures.

I always have liked Rondout Creek (Kingston). Nice town docks, nearby resturant choices, and a small museum to keep you occupied.

Yes a very big day!

And now our building is on lockdown. Cops have it under guard.
They fired an employee and when she was being escported out she slugged the guy escorting her. They she threatened a couple other employees saying they were next.
So until she is under police arrest they don't want anyone out of the bulding.
I won't miss this crap at all.
