On our A 27 FC we had a 13 gallon tank that came with the boat and space was an issue - however, we were able to have a custom 24 gal made and then installed it - just fit. We made a cardboard mock-up of the size and location of hoses. We had to consider the space that it would take up and also how it would get to that resting place! Good luck - it makes life so much easier - we too anchor out almost all the time.

I hear you on getting the new tank into place. Good idea on the mock-up. Do you recall where you had the tank made?

SK, even we somewhat smaller and more flexible people have to find someplace to compress into! Inhaling helps. It sucks everything in.

How are things progressing for you? My situation... An odor issue led to me finding leaking hose, a leaking macerator pump, etc. Pulled everything this weekend. I'm tempted to simplify what I consider an overly complex system for my needs with a straight head to tank discharge and deck pump out. This would free up a LOT of space for a larger tank.

We haven't done anything but speculate yet as the boat won't get here until the end of the month. We looked at the space when we surveyed a few weeks ago, and there's room for a slightly larger tank--maybe 15 gal. if I can find a prefab to fit--but we'll have to stare at it a while to see whether some rearranging can be done to gain space. I don't remember where in the boat the macerator pump is. That could go away as far as I'm concerned because we can't even use it on Lake Champlain.

Quick followup on my "Airhead" post above. They are not for everyone, but we spent two to three nights a week on the boat (FC30) for the past five weeks here in SW Florida using the "liquid" deposit often and the "solid" deposit once a day. We do not empty the solid side since it composts (just add peat moss) and the liquid side gets emptied every fourth day. No holding tank or other componets of a marine sanitation system are involved. In fact, I removed it all last summer. I had some issues with the old manual head and macerator so I was due to replace them in any case. I found this as an alternative and am VERY happy with the result. No smel.l no flush, and no holding tank. As I mentioned, they are not for everyone but they are an alternative.

I have the 60 gal tank between the stringers forward and it seems if your boat did not have this option or the generator, that you should be able to put up to a 60 gal tank here. That's a lot of flushes

Really? 60 gallons?! I'd be happy with a third of that! We don't have a generator. Please clarify location - between the two helm seats? Got any photos? What shape is your tank?

Nancy - I swapped out the 10 gallon Krakor tank (looked original) with a 13 gallon Todd tank. The new tank is narrower, higher, and longer, but basically sits where the old one did. I had to move the y-valve and macerator pump locations just a little bit.

I'm nearly certain that the holding tank in our 28 (a 1997) was a 6 gallon. So a 13 would be a huge improvement!
