Zinc Replacements on shafts rudder & Yanmars?

Please correct me if I am wrong.
Replace two pencil zincs on each of the 315 Yanmars (4 total 2 engines)
one zinc on each rudder (2 zinc)
one on each prop shaft (2 zinc)
total of 8 zincs to be replaced every year
any others I might be missing?
any recomendations best place to get Yanmar zincs

I want to say there are more than 2 zincs on the my Yanmar (1999 6LP) but I'd have to look at the engine to verify. The number 4 seems familiar without verifying..... I also have zincs on the trim tabs and bow thruster motor.

You're lucky. Our engine has something like 10 or 12 zincs on it. Every year I check them. Every year, they show zero degradation.

The zincs on the shaft and trim tabs, however, do need regular replacement.

Aboard On-Rush 2004 28 TE, I have a zinc on the shaft, one on each trim tab, rudder and a "brick" on the stern as well as the standard ones on the Yanmar 315.

I have to replace the ones on the trim tabs and shaft about half way through the season (August).

I'm going to be changing the zincs a week from now,
I have the 2005 Yanmar 315 6LPA-STP and counted the same zinc's
1- intercooler
2- engine oil cooler
2- freshwater cooler
I couldn't find the 1 transmission cooler zinc. Do you mind explaining where I can find it? I only had a fast look, but didn't seem to find it.
Also should those 5-6 zincs be the only ones to be changed with in the engine compartment of the boat?

My transmission cooler zinc is on under side close to the exhaust elbow feel under the cooler it is easy to change but one of the least degrading. Yanmar 300, 2000 has HUrth transmission. I don't have pictures to post.
I have heard of a zinc on the fuel oil cooler also, this was on yanmar 300 with outdrive have not found it on my engine but havent looked really well.

There were 2 different fuel coolers supplied with the 6LP. One has a zinc, one does not. The one with the zinc is the one with the threaded fuel nipples. The one without the zinc is the one with the integral threaded nipples. See the last page of the attached 6LP zinc diagram - it shows both fuel coolers. The cooler with the threaded-in fuel nipples is the better cooler. It's of heavier construction and has the zinc. My 6LP had the cheaper cooler and immediately after a Rydlyme flush this season I found it leaking when I was leak testing the engine after reattaching my hoses after the flush. It was probably on it's way out and the buildup of minerals and salt were the only thing holding it together. Below are pics of the cheaper cooler and where mine failed at the fuel fitting weld point. When I discovered the leak I was concerned that I could have introduced water into my fuel return so I did a leak test - see photo. The leak was at the weld point between the nipple and cooler body, so no worries there. I could have repaired it but preferred to have the cooler with the zinc so I opted for replacement.

The tranny coolers can have a zinc or not have a zinc. Some mechanics have removed the zinc and used the threaded fitting as the pickup point for the shaft seal cooler hose.

Thanks for the good advice and the PDF. I ended up changing the zincs todays. I have the newer freshwater cooler with zinks, also found the fuel cooler zink, which was not marked as a zinc. Doesn't seem that my tranny cooler has a zink though. I looked and felt all around it, but nothing.
This is my firt boat with a deisel motor, last few boats were all outboards. Is there any thing else I should do after changing zincs? Should I remove the large diameter water hoses from the coolers and drain out any debris to keep them lasting longer? When I was removing one of the engine oil cooler zincs, it snaped off and fell insinde the cooler body, will I need to remove it? will it damage any thing if I can't get it out ?What would be the best way to get it out if I need to?

The broken off zinc will dissolve with time and if it's making good contact with the metal component it will even still do it's job. I do not believe it will have any negative effect but you may opt to call Mac Boring at 866-526-9717 for further info.

When you ask if there is anything else to do after the zincs are you referring to winterization or general maintenance of the raw water side of the engine? How many hours on the clock?

thanks for the diagrams, my fuel cooler has the threaded nipples and as suspected the zinc, it is not marked as such and I had not taken the bolt out to inspect it.
