Beede Tachometer Correction

Last fall, I though all of your were nuts crusing at 3200rpm!!
At 3200 rpm, I was cranking about 23 knots.
I maxed out somewhere around 3400 rpm.
Yet I had the same 19x19 prop.
Ah ha!! the tachometer!!
While at Standish Boat Yard this week, I discussed this with Ken Hilton.
The remedy:
The Yanmar 315 has 118 tooth flywheel. And according to Ken, there is a specific code to be "dialed in" on the backside of the Beede tach.
This is the same as setting a garage door opener.
Ken gave me the code of 1,5,7,8,9.
When I looked at the tach today, it was set at 2,5,7,8,9.
Although I havn't splashed yet, I bet this solves the problem.

As most things on the Albin, the access to these toggles are difficult to see and change, but still can be done.

There is an adjustment to fine tune the tach as well, but you really should have a mechanic's tach on the motor and run it up to around cruising speed and sync it to the mechanic's tach. It's not unusual for the tachs to be 100-200 rpm off.

I just checked my Beede Tach that I removed from my 03' Yanmar 6LP a few weeks ago. It is set 1,4,5,7,8,9 and was reading about 100 low at WOT. I have replaced it with a Faria tach and other instruments to save some dash space for bigger GPS/Radar screen (see New Helm Station thread).

Had a chance to check my Beede tach today. I have a Flow-Scan and the 2 tachs differ by about 100-120 RPM at cruising speeds. The pins are set as listed, 1,5,7,8,9 but the Beede website list that as a 116 tooth fly wheel. The 118 tooth is 1,4,7,8,10. Attached is the PDF link to Beede Tachs.

Where can I confirm the number of flywheel teeth on my 6LP-STP. I haven't been able to find it in the manuals I have.

I spoke with Bob at Mack Boring today regarding the number of teeth on the 6LP-STP flywheel. According to Bob, the magic number is 117. Sounds like, once again, there is no stock answer with Albins . I have a 2006 Flushdeck so the engine box version may be different. I plan to reset the pins on my tach this weekend and see if that get the two closer together.

I rec'd an email from Mack Boring today confirming 117 teeth on the flywheel.
Beede tachometer closed switch code should 1,4,7.

I'll set it this weekend. I'll report back to tach performance.

I have it 1.5.7.8.9 now, and it's reading over 4100 rpm wide open.

If the new code gets me to 3900 - 3950 rpm. that will be on target.
