Hours

Post by RicM »

I did 150 hours on the button this year and Karen & I just took her to the Shipyard last night to be hauled this week. Last year we 230 hours, I must me getting soft! We averaged 3.3 Gal/hour this year.

Although the GPH calc is very straightforward, I thought I was doing something wrong when I came up with my average of 4.63 GPH for my 6LP. All of your posts are a good validation of what I calculated. I didn't just bubble along either. I fairly consistently cruised at 3200 - 3500 rpm with some lower rpm in rough water.

Here are the details for Patriot for the 2008 season (June 26 - Nov 1)

377 gallons
81.5 hours
4.63 GPH

Weighted average per gallon price paid for diesel: $4.57
High $4.95
Low $$2.99

Fuel Use

Post by RicM »

Yes the first year I thought I left out a fuel fill or two. Use does affect the average quite a bit, however. We do lot's of fishing, trolling, and drifting. Cruising at 16-18 knots sets you back more like 10-11 Gal/hour. Still a very thrifty vessel considering the amenities.

I pulled T-R the first weekend in November which is over a month early for me. Work is just beserk busy and over the Thanksgiving weekend I am relocating my business to a commercial building I bought. So the last month has been focused on getting it ready and the next couple weeks will be spent getting everything smoothed out so getting the boat out early was just one thing I could get checked of the to-do list. Winterizing and unloading her in a T-shirt was just down right wierd. Normally it's mid December and I'm in coveralls, etc etc ...

So this year I put on 50 less hours than last year. Did a lot less fishing and with the new dinghy we did a lot of local anchoring and exploring, etc. Due to TS Irene I worked 7 days a week in Sept and then she came out 6 weeks early. So it makes sense..

Very similar #'s to Afterglow:

76 Hours
4.5 GPH
Average fuel cost per gallon: $4.42

Zinbaad: Seems likely your gph will be off signficantly with the twins. However, do hope you post the numbers so we have some idea what to expect next season. Will then join in the posting on this costs of operation next year. Wishing all you folks pulling out for the winter lots of R&R for the next season of activiites. Nibbles will stay in the water at Anacortes which gives me an excuse and need to go and check it once a month.

I see the southern Albin members will just keep on going through out the winter - well such as it is in Florida and places south. Love those Florida waters this time of year. My son's returning to Sacramento, Ca. took away my excuse to be in Tampa for the holidays.

Have pretty much given up on the sale of Miss Pearl the 290 Luhrs so she is coming home to Trinidad, Ca. for a local fisher unless pray someone local gets interested. Two boats is crazy, but it won't sell in this market with no financing out there on older boats.

Well this year stunk!
61.5 hours and 197 gallons. 3.2 GPH due to a couple of long slow cruises.
Ave price about $4.00/gallon. I decided now to write it down this year
We really had a disappointing fall season. Only made it out a couple of times after Irene and the mess in the Susquehanna and Upper Bay. Pulled the boat a couple of weeks early.
Next year will be better :)

Well,
another year of hectic life. Not much use, only 69.1 engine Hrs. Generator 112.1 HRS.
Total fuel 394.7 gallons both engine & generator combined.
Break down: Engine & generator together 5.71 gallons an Hour.
Take away generator : Engine 4.57 gallons an Hour.
Average price of fuel 4.03 a gallon. Generator burns .7 gallons an Hour under full load.
Boat 1997 31 TE
ENG. 450 HP. Cummins
GEN. 5KW Westerbeke
I run at 2200 RPM = 18 knot cruise. I fill the fuel tanks when it get's to 1/4, also run
with the water tank the same way. This has been my averages for the past 4 years.
IT does not get much better than this when you think about how much you are
pushing through the water.

Liberty Call is still in the water. I have winterized the engine twice and then we get another great day so we had the boat out again on Saturday and Sunday. Bought a Sea Flush winterizing kit that makes winterizing the engine and clearing the thru-hull a 5 minute job.

Work :( put a damper on my totals for the year so 56 hours and 330 gals
Liberty Call - 28TE
