Hired a diver to clean the bottom and running gear.
The aluminum anodes lasted 21 months in brackish waters, the zinc anodes about 8-9 months, big difference.

All done with the zincs and the cooling system.
Tried to twist the problematic heat exchanger end cap for easier access to the
end cap zinc pencil, but only had 15-20 degree movement: The problem is the zinc cap is too close to the engine block, can't fit a socket on to it.
I understand some Yanmar owners have no problem, maybe I am just lucky.
(Or I need thin walled socket)
Everything is back together now, 6 new zincs, a new hose, 4-5 new hose clamps, a new gasket, etc.

That one engine zinc is a challenge for sure. On mine I'm able to get a flex head ratcheting wrench on it, and get maybe one to two clicks at a time. PITA, but doable for me w/o removing the cap or hoses.

You are good, or lucky :mrgreen:

I tried different things over the years and found that removing hoses is quicker
than fighting the zinc for an hour trying to remove it without removing hoses and hose clamps.
Next time I will make a You-Tube video showing all the attempts including the swearing and cussing, then the resignation when I start pulling hoses.. :roll:

Time for some house cleaning.
Expensive helm chairs, don't want to use the wrong cleaners/chemicals:
The maker said to use 409 solution as it is mild, and a soft brush.
Then when rinsed and dry: Use furniture wax to coat the naugahyde vinyl :shock:
To restore luster, a light coat of spray furniture wax can be used. Apply for 30 seconds and follow with a light buffing using a clean white cloth.

No recent updates as there has been no Modifications, Repairs or Improvements lately.
Instead we did a long trip, delivering the boat to our new home at Marina del Palma @ Palm Coast, FL. (From Fort Lauderdale, FL)
The trip was about 240 NM up the ICW and took 25 hours with 3 stops.

The boat has never been this heavy before, full fuel plus 10 gallons spare, full
water plus 14 gallons spare, reserve prop, reserve starter, tools and more spares.
3 guys and food, wine and beer of course.
Could only get 15.5 knots initially but as we got lighter it ran faster.
Fuel flow was less than before after I installed a new flow sensor and damper in the FloScan System. In the past max cruise would show 12 gph, now it is more like 10 and 1.60 mpg. Good news,

Arrived this morning at our new marina homestead and Odin got a pull from a huge forklift.



Sitting on the ramp for a quick wash, rinse and dry before it gets lifted into the hurricane rated boat house for secure storage. Less maintenance, less cleaning and less worry.
(Had my own backyard dock in Fort Lauderdale for 24 years, lots of work and worry every time there is a 'cane on the horizon and especially when we get a direct hit :shock: )

Another mini-project today:
Starboard hull-side air vent showed streaks of rust and dirt below it:

Perhaps the spot welds on the vent didn't like salt water?
Ordered a new one and gave it a bath in WD-40.

I let the stuff soak in all the nooks and crannies for days in a plastic bath-tub:

Installed today and cleaned the hull somehow. (need a dab of acid to get it 100% good, but enough for a 5 feet away inspection)

I noticed yesterday the coolant hoses from the Yanmar to the hot water heater do not have shut off valves. (So as to keep running the engine if the heater developes an interal coolant leak)
Does any other Albin have these valves? If not, did you install them? (my boat is a 2001 year model)

I had thought about adding those valves when I replaced the water heater on my 28 but decided just to carry the properly sized male to male coupling and figured if it ever became an issue was easy enough to cut those coolant loop hoses and join them together and close the engine loop.

I will probably down-size to a 22"-24" single outboard center console runabout, probably brand new with tons of warranties on everything.
In a few months boat prices may be back to normal.
In the meantime I will bum boat rides from friends and neighbors: The best kind of boating you can do... :mrgreen:
