Easy project - galley faucet
We're installing a new refrigerator in our new-to-us 28TE, so it was a perfect time to install a new galley faucet. It was beyond time....
I installed the new one today myself! I didn't break anything, I didn't get stuck, it works with no leaks, and I think it's gorgeous! It's a Moen laundry faucet, #74998. I added the aerator so that it doesn't look quite so much like a laundry faucet. I'd dreamed of a single handle faucet, but that wouldn't have worked without lots of modification, so like everything boat-related, I compromised. I'm very satisfied with the result.

Great job. I would like to replace mine that looks like your old one but did you do it when the sink was out?

Re: Easy project - galley faucet
Russ,
You only have to remove the fridge, which is much easier than removing the sink. Then you can reach around behind the sink and the cabinet to all the fittings. I almost couldn't reach the cold line with my short arms (I'm 5'3"), but I made it. You also get the chance to clean back there. Yuck!

Nice Job, nice and clean looking. BTW, You must be shorter than 5'3" if you can read that No Discharge decal when you're standing at the sink!

Not yet. This was a keep busy project today because we had a 20-25mph blow.
I really need to look at the shower faucet. I may be able to get one of these HD faucets to feed from the bottom then put a nylon white plug in the top. But that still leaves the hand held portion to replace.

I'd love to know what you figure out for the shower faucet.

I'm still working on the A/C for the "Princess"(wife). So the faucet is a mid-summer project.
I will post the results.

Re: Easy project - galley faucet
Reviving an old thread with the hope of keeping the galley faucet talk somewhat organized.
The co-pilot has asked for a new faucet and would love a single lever style like this:
http://www.overtons.com/modperl/product ... rchID=4005
I've read ALL of the threads, but I haven't seen any mention of going with a single handle faucet (with sprayer) for the galley. Wondering if it's b/c that style won't fit or people have just made other choices? Anybody out there change over to a single level faucet?
Thx.

Re: Easy project - galley faucet
Jim, I would have loved a single-handle faucet, but I saw a couple problems.
1. Biggest problem - there would have been holes to fill. I didn't want to make the project that complicated.
2. Clearance for the handle might have been OK, but I thought it would be a hassle to reach into the compartment to operate it.
I stopped thinking about #2 when I decided that #1 was the prevailing factor.

Re: Easy project - galley faucet
I'm thinking the lack of clearance is stopping this little project in it's tracks. However, the head on the faucet (the cap that spins on) is cracked, so I'm on the hunt for a replacement part or a similar faucet.

Re: Easy project - galley faucet
Not sure what the faucet head is, but I'm very satisfied with the Moen as a full replacement.

Re: Easy project - galley faucet
This is on my list of things to do, project number 137 if I remember correctly. A frind of mine installed a faucet in the galley that has a hose connection (not sure what type or name of faucet). It allows him to connect a section of hose and use it as a fresh water rinse after swiming in the ocean. He also uses it as a wash down for the decks and wheel house roof. I like the idea of being able to rise off in the cockpit (I have a Albin 27 FC) or swim platform.
Would love to see pictures and notes for the refrigerator project as that is number 138 on my list....I think....
Regards,
John
