Best 27 FC to buy

Post by jonaz »

Hello everyone, I am thinking of buying a 27 FC. I have seen some forum comments indicating that newer (1985 & later) are 'better built' than prior year's models. If anyone wants to 'weigh in,' on this one, please do :) Also, what do you think is the 'best' engine? The older Lehman/Peugot is, apparently, almost impossible to get parts for. How about the Nissan or Yanmar engines. I have seen a few boats with 100+ HP Isuzu engines! (That might make a 27 FC a good waterski boat???) Are some engines noisier, more vibration than others?
Any info will certainly be appreciated. Thank you

The best one to buy is the one the previous owner has spent 1,000 hours and $15,000 to rebuild to better than new. With any luck, you can buy it for about half what he has in it and you'll have a relatively problem-free (as problem-free as any 30 year old boat can be anyway) boat that you can enjoy for many years to come

It's a lot like buying a classic car - You can pick up a cheap one for $5,000 and then put 1,000 hours and $15,000 into to make it a great car . . . . or you can buy from someone who has already done all that and save yourself hundreds of hours of labor and thousands of dollars. Very few restoration projects sell for half of the time and money spent on them . . . . people do it because they love what they're working on and not because they think they're going to make money (or even come close to breaking even) when they eventually sell their pride and joy

You know the old saying - The two best days of your life are the day you buy your boat . . . . and the day you finally sell it!
